Three days left in Pepsi Refresh. We have fallen out of the Top 4 & are now in 5th place. This makes me sad. PLEASE VOTE daily until April 30th to help Roadtrip with Reason jump back into the Top 4! Please! Please! Pleaseeee! Hi Friends, It's time for another (long overdue) non-profit announcement! As mentioned in a previous post, I am going to be sharing with you some of the different non-profit organizations that I will be spending time with when I am on the road! This organizations home base is in Montreal but they provide services all across Canada. Here we go... How much do you LOVE this photo? Awesome staff! What is Apathy is Boring? "Apathy is Boring's mission is to use art and technology to educate youth about democracy." What do they do? "Apathy is Boring accomplishes its goals through the following program areas: Concerts & Events that encourage youth to get involved in their communities, survey them about their democratic participation habits, and create an opportunity for dialogue between elected officials and youth. A Youth Friendly Program including workshops, tools, and resources to engage youth in decision-making and educate decision-makers about how to engage youth. Apathyisboring.com which provides youth with information, "how-to's", and support to get involved in democracy. Election Campaigns that reach out to youth and give them the information they need to make an informed vote." What are their goals? "Apathy is Boring aims to meet the following Youth in Democracy Goals: a) increase youth voting rates b) increase youth engagement in their communities c) build a sustainable dialogue between youth and elected officials" I love this organization...L-O-V-E them! I can't wait to hang out with them when I make it to Montreal.
They are too cool. Am I right?! Due to the upcoming election on May 2nd, I am certain that their office is full of that buzzing bee sensation...working hard to ensure that youth are voting! I STRONGLY advise you to check out their incredible website and make use of their Political Parties guide. It will able you to make an informed decision when you vote - and please, please, please do VOTE! Make use of your voice... it's an important one! Speaking of voting, don't forget to get your daily vote in for my Roadtrip with Reason in Pepsi Refresh Canada. Only TWO spots to go until the $5,000 grant is achieved. Amazing! Please, please, please keep up the daily vote until April 30th and spread the word. Happy trails & travels! Much Love, -- Becky xo Gooood Morning! Happy Wednesday. It is early early early for a post (for me) but I wanted to get something up in the a.m. ... I am headed to an overnight leadership development training session (woo hoo) in a matter of moments. I just wanted to say something really important.... THANK YOU! THANK YOU!! THANK YOU! THANK YOU!! THANK YOU! THANK YOU!! THANK YOU! THANK YOU!! Roadtrip with Reason is now in 7th place in Pepsi Refresh. 7th PLACE!!!! Only 3 spots to jump. This is an incredible feeling. Eee! I am so so so excited and so so so grateful for your INCREDIBLE support. Family, friends, new friends and strangers. I am a lucky girl!! In honour of our 7th placement, I thought I would post up the following gem. As my mom has been saying "8 is great but 7 would be heaven" ..... Haha! Does this bring back fond memories for anyone else? Yep, I was a serious fan back in the day .... hilarious!
Anyway, I hope you all have a WONDERFUL Wednesday. Please don't forget to keep voting, voting, voting .... only 17 days left!!! (Did I just hear a major sigh of relief? Haha) Much LOVE, Becky xo It's Tune-eee Tuesday. Musssssssic! It is mighty important to have a solid road trip playlist, which is why I have been compiling weekly lists of wonderful tunes. This week I am focusing on artists from PRINCE EDWARD ISLAND! This province happens to currently hold the title of my favourite province. I just love it oh-so-much and can't wait to get back in August! Here are my top 5 choices this week. I strongly urge you to check these lovely musicians out on Radio 3 or Itunes etc -- these videos just don't do them justice!! Enjoy! 1) Two Hours Traffic -- Stuck for the Summer 2) Boxer the Horse -- Hotel Song 3) Haunted Hearts -- There is no understanding between tree and man 4) Cynthia McLeod (with Gord Belsher) -- Ballad of the St. Anne's Reel 5) Racoon Bandit -- River Song During the last round of Pepsi Refresh Canada won $10,000 to open a permanent all ages music venue / rehearsal space! Pretty sweet. Not sure if it's going to be up and running by the time I hit PEI, but if so I will have to check it out! Don't forget to vote for ROADTRIP WITH REASON .... 18 days left & 4 spots to go. It's going to be one tough road to get there but there is still a chance. Please please please get your daily votes in & continue to spread the word! Merci!
Until next week.... Much Love, -- Becky xo Hi Friends, Happy Tuesday! I am a BIG fan of Ted talks ... they are inspiring, exciting and often educational. If you have not yet hopped on the TED train, I encourage you to check it out. You won't be sorry! I came across the video below via Twitter this afternoon. A TEDx video about micro-volunteering! I thought it was a really interesting concept and wanted to share it! Afterall, TED is all about ideas worth sharing..... Any thoughts?! Do you think this concept could work?
Enjoy your Tuesday & don't forget to VOTE VOTE VOTE!!! 8th place. It's time to hit 7th. I am getting quite bored of seeing #8 day after day! Pleaseeeee help me reach the Top 4. You support is MOST appreciated :) xo Happy trails & travels, -- Becky xo Hi Friends, As mentioned in a previous post, I am going to be announcing (over the next couple months) the different non-profit organizations that I will be spending time with when I am on the road! I am SUPER excited to share one of the non-profits that I have connected with from Nova Scotia... THE EMPATHY FACTORY "The Empathy Factory first delivers a highly motivational and educational workshop on the value of volunteering and giving one's time. We help the students feel the rewards and benefits of giving, and help them tap into their own skills of empathy. Following the workshop, students are challenged to come up with creative and novel ways of helping their community. Working alone or in teams, the students submit applications with their proposed ideas and are judged based on pre-determined set of criteria (which includes: who will benefit from the project, what they hope to achieve, what resources they'll need etc...) The children are challenged to think generously and creatively. To promote what the students are doing, we will be putting ads in various media - this will both motivate the students, and reward them for their efforts. We will also be offering limited funding to the projects (up to $5,000) in order to assure that exceptional ideas are not overlooked because of prohibitive costs. The Empathy Factory will be in charge of all deliverables for the competition. We will also work hands-on with the youth on the winning ideas (two of which will be selected). Through support, mentorship, empowerment, and funding, the Empathy Factory will ensure that students are successful in their philanthropic project." I cannot tell you how excited I am to meet this amazing group. I LOVE their idea (so much) and think a program like The Empathy Factory could work wonders in communities across the country. I actually came across their project via twitter and have been in close contact with them ever since. Blair & Stef from The Empathy Factory have been INCREDIBLY supportive of the Roadtrip with Reason and I am so grateful. Totally proving that classic stereotype that people from the East coast are super nice. It seems to be true! Haha.
I am so happy to be able to play a small part in The Empathy Factory this coming summer - they are just in the pilot stages of their project and I cannot wait to watch them grow! Be sure to check out their Facebook page to keep updated on their current student project. So exciting! Happy trails & travels, -- Becky xo P.S.
