As mentioned in a previous post, I am going to be announcing (over the next couple months) the different non-profit organizations that I will be spending time with when I am on the road! I am SUPER excited to share one of the non-profits that I have connected with from Nova Scotia...
Following the workshop, students are challenged to come up with creative and novel ways of helping their community. Working alone or in teams, the students submit applications with their proposed ideas and are judged based on pre-determined set of criteria (which includes: who will benefit from the project, what they hope to achieve, what resources they'll need etc...)
The children are challenged to think generously and creatively.
To promote what the students are doing, we will be putting ads in various media - this will both motivate the students, and reward them for their efforts. We will also be offering limited funding to the projects (up to $5,000) in order to assure that exceptional ideas are not overlooked because of prohibitive costs.
The Empathy Factory will be in charge of all deliverables for the competition. We will also work hands-on with the youth on the winning ideas (two of which will be selected). Through support, mentorship, empowerment, and funding, the Empathy Factory will ensure that students are successful in their philanthropic project."
I am so happy to be able to play a small part in The Empathy Factory this coming summer - they are just in the pilot stages of their project and I cannot wait to watch them grow! Be sure to check out their Facebook page to keep updated on their current student project. So exciting!
Happy trails & travels,
