It's no secret that I am a lover of all things artistic. The majority of my "adult" life has revolved around studying, supporting, promoting and respecting the arts community. After finalizing my Ottawa dates for the roadtrip (August 25th - 29th), I discovered that a major volunteer-run music festival was taking place at the exact same time. Fate!!
You betcha! The Ottawa Folk Festival is a non-profit, volunteer-based community organization that was formed in 1994.
What is it?
"Set amidst the natural beauty of Hog's Back Park, the Ottawa Folk Festival is a four-day celebration of music, dance, visual arts and community featuring an eclectic mix of musical performances on two evening and five daytime stages, plus participatory music workshops, special children's and family performances, wellness activities, beer gardens, artisan and craft vendors, and much, much more. We are family-friendly, community-focused, culturally diverse and committed to sustainability and eco-friendly initiatives."
Oh, boy! I am so very excited to be able to experience the festival scene as a volunteer. Canada is known for their GREAT musical festivals - I think it's safe to say that they're an important part of the summer culture all across the country. So many of them rely on their volunteers to have a successful event, and the Ottawa Folk Festival is no different.
This is going to be a really unique opportunity because we will be able to experience many different volunteer options over the course of one weekend.....plus the amazing tunes and local arts community! Psyched!
